Learn how to apply vinyl decals to your T-LOC 4 rocket kit for a clean, professional finish. Step-by-step instructions with common mistakes to avoid.
Quick answer
Apply the T-LOC 4 vinyl decals using a wet method with soapy water for repositioning, then squeegee out bubbles and let dry overnight for a smooth, long-lasting finish.
Why vinyl decals need a different approach
The T-LOC 4 comes with vinyl decals, not water-slide transfers. Vinyl is thicker and less forgiving of dry application. Using a wet method gives you time to slide the decal into perfect alignment before it sticks permanently.
Surface prep matters more than you think
Even a clean rocket body can have mold release or oils from handling. Wipe the entire T-LOC 4 body tube, fins, and nose cone with isopropyl alcohol before you start. Skip this step and your decals may peel off after a few flights.
Step-by-step decal installation
- Clean the surface: Wipe the rocket body tube, fins, and nose cone with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth. Let dry for 5 minutes. Common mistake: touching the surface with bare hands after cleaning adds oils that prevent adhesion.
- Cut and soak the decal: Cut out each decal close to the design edge. Fill a shallow tray with water and a drop of dish soap. Submerge the decal for 10–15 seconds until the backing releases. Don't soak too long — the decal may curl or lose adhesive strength.
- Position and slide: Slide the decal off the backing onto the rocket surface. Use the soapy water to move it into exact position. Hold it in place with a fingertip. Common mistake: pressing down too early. Keep the decal wet until alignment is perfect.
- Squeegee out water and bubbles: Use a soft squeegee or credit card wrapped in a cloth. Start from the center and push outward. Remove all visible water and air bubbles. Work slowly — trapped bubbles are nearly impossible to fix once the decal dries.
- Let dry and seal: Let the rocket sit undisturbed for at least 12 hours. For extra durability, apply a thin clear coat (matte or gloss) over the decal area. Rushing the drying time is the #1 cause of decals peeling on the launch pad.
Product facts
- T-LOC 4: The T-LOC 4 includes vinyl decals, rail guides, and motor retention. Vinyl decals are durable but require careful wet application to avoid wrinkles and air bubbles.
